Lake Alaotra Tour

Lake Alaotra is the largest lake in Madagascar, located in Alaotra-Mangoro Region and on the island's northern central plateau. Its basin is composed of shallow freshwater lakes and marshes surrounded by areas of dense vegetation. It forms the center of the island's most important rice-growing region.

The rich flora and fauna of Lake Alaotra includes a number of locally endemic species such as the Alaotra gentle lemur (Hapalemur alaotrensis), which is the world’s only primate found exclusively in wetlands.

Here's an itinerary for a tour to Lake Alaotra:

Day 1:

  • Arrive in Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar.

Day 2:

  • After breakfast, depart for the Lake Alaotra region, which is about 220 km east of Antananarivo.
